4 Main Reasons Why People Drink

People drink for a variety of reasons, and each one may have a specific motivation for doing so. But according to research, it’s actually not that difficult. Four broad categories can be used to group drinking reasons:

1.Coping: Managing uncomfortable feelings.
2.Conformity: Making an effort to fit in.

3.Enhancement: Desire for the enjoyable effects of drinking.
4.Social: Enjoying the company of others.

Though drinking has been embraced by many people it doesn’t make it right or wrong. The Kenyan culture has gone above and beyond to try and justify the worrying drinking culture terming it as ‘sherehe’, that you only live once (#YOLO). The problem is not the drinking but what people do after drinking.

Drinking joints have become a crime scene with gullible men falling for beautiful ladies out to drug and rob them. In a recent expose ‘operation mchele’ by Citizen Tv, some of this men end up dying because of the adverse effects of the drugs. We have similarly heard of one if not two stories of people loosing control while drinking and becoming violent to a point of harming those around which at times leads to death.

Evaluating the pros and cons of drinking, the cons definitely take the day for me.
